We all know a Neggie, this is the term I use for negative people. You know the type they love to talk about all the things that have gone wrong in their life, the things that are going to go wrong in their life and they live for the latest gossip.
A Neggie will be the first one to point out to you that your new brilliant idea will never ever work.
So what do we do when we come across a Neggie and how do we maintain a positive outlook when surrounded by negative people? It might be a family member or the lady you sit next to at work, either way I am going to give you a few tips for you to try out to help you deal with the Neggies and keep your positive chi flowing.
This is sometimes much easier said than done and admittedly not always possible especially if you are at a family gathering or at work but if it is possible then just leave. Remove yourself from the situation make your excuses and just walk away.
2) Keep Positive
If it is not possible to walk away from the situation and you find yourself stuck in a conversation that has taken a turn for the worse and the negative comments or actions come near dismiss them and try to turn the conversation around sometimes simply changing the tone of your voice can help turn a negative situation more positive. Don't speak negative and give attention to only what is positive
3) Think Positive
So you have tried to turn the conversation around and in spite of your efforts the conversation is still quite negative now try and split your thoughts and focus on something positive perhaps the person you’re talking to made you a cup of tea earlier or you like the colours on their tie. Try and find something positive about the person you are talking to. Alternatively try and think of a positive quote you have heard and repeat it to yourself over and over. When you focus on something positive it will instantly neutralize the negative energy
4) Be Grateful
Be grateful for all that you have, for the lessons you have learned, the lessons you yet have to learn. Be grateful for everything even the conversation you’re having it’s just another lesson and this person’s presence in your life could be a signal that there is some negativity in your space that you are not acknowledging be grateful for them bringing this to your attention
This is by far my favourite and breathing techniques get me through almost everything. Breathe slowly in through your nose count to four, allow your stomach to expand as you breathe in, hold your breath for a moment and then release your breath slowly counting to 7. Repeat this as necessary.
