This morning I was talking to a very good friend who was feeling quite down. This made me realise how many people feel like this every day and don’t say anything. We all want to be happy so how do we go about it.
Now I am well aware that positive thinking is much easier said than done especially when you feel far from positive. I was brought up by my mother. Who had an extremely positive attitude so positive sometimes it drove me insane. I remember ringing my mum after being burgled a few years ago I was very upset and through tears I was explaining how unfair it was and why did bad things always happen to me. My mother just took a deep breath and said well what are you doing to attract these things. You must be bringing this on yourself. This is not what I wanted to hear. I put the phone down and cried and cried for hours. Now this was quite dramatic but no one was there and I obviously had a lot to release. Once I had gotton over myself I realised that my Mother once again was right.
What You Think + What You Feel = What You Attract
Your life is a self-portrait it is a reflection of who you think you are and what you think you can have. So if it appears that the world is saying no to your requests, it is simply reflecting the fact that YOU believe you can’t have what you desire. So when you learn to understand the process by which you attract people and circumstances into your life, you will be empowered to create a brand new self-portrait that will make you happy. By staying positive, we give ourselves the energy and strength to get through difficult periods, we’re more likely to make good choices and take action towards our goals.
If you often feel unhappy and negative then read on. Making this kind of change won't happen for everyone, but isn't it worth a shot?
Find the Silver Lining
When things start to go wrong don’t complain. Look for the silver lining. Every situation has one..
So your train is late. There is nothing you can do so take the time to read a book or perhaps catch up on the texts you were supposed to reply to, you could plan tonight’s evening meal.
Make a list
This is my favourite. It’s easy to focus on the negatives in life, whether you’re not happy at work, there is a problem at home, or a failed relationship. You might worry that you need to fix all these things in order to feel good about yourself. Instead, spend some time thinking about everything that is positive and write them down.
Affirmations are short positive statements. If you have a lot of negative thoughts going round in your head, and you’re struggling against that critical inner voice(monkey brain) you know the one that tells “you’re not good enough” or “you’ll never achieve anything” – then it’s time to replace that tape with something new. Affirmations are a great way to do this. You can find some of these online or download an app; you could even write your own that way, you’ll be able to fit your affirmation to your own goals and dreams. Use the present tense for your affirmation (e.g. “I am happy” or “I have lots of energy”) Once you have decided on your affirmation you could perhaps write them on a post it note and stick it to your mirror or fridge. Repeat the affirmation at least three times.
I know that I deserve Love and accept it now
I am the perfect weight for me
My life is a joy filled with love, fun and friendship all I need do is stop all criticism, forgive, relax and be open
The more grateful I am, the more reasons I find to be grateful.
Make a pact with yourself that the next time you hear yourself being negative or even having negative thoughts, you will make a conscious effort to replace those feelings with a positive thought.
Set Small, Achievable Goals
It is crucial to write your goal down. You may have heard this a dozen times but do you know why this step is so important?
When you put pen to paper you turn your thoughts into something tangible. You can actually see it, touch it, and even smell it if you want to. Your goal is no longer just a thought! It becomes something, what motivates us and creates a gut feeling inside.
Write down your goal in a positive. Make sure you include all the detail. I remember another one from my mum she wrote down all the details of the apartment she wanted when she lived in Spain. But forgot to add she wanted a bath. Needless to say the perfect apartment came up. The right price, the right place the perfect open plan kitchen and yes you guessed it no Bath!! So make sure to add all the details. The more information you give it, the more clear the final outcome becomes.
Write your goals in present tense this way the unconscious mind chooses the path of least resistance. So if you write I will be rich. Your unconscious mind doesn’t do anything about it and will think that it is ok to postpone until later. So make sure you write your goals as if they are already true
So if you find yourself overwhelmed with negative thoughts start with small steps. After all, you are essentially trying to cultivate a new habit, and as anyone who has ever tried to change behaviour or keep a new year’s resolution can tell you, these things really do take time.
To ensure you keep positive and get the best out of every situation then why not take a NLP or Life Coaching Course.
