So your office party is coming up, you have tried your dress on and Arrrghhhh it doesn't fit. You have gained a few winter pounds and you need to look for a way to get into that dress and quick. I’m sorry to tell you many fad diets are worse than useless and not only do they not help you lose weight in the long run and they may be positively unhealthy, The answer? go and treat yourself to a new dress.
Drawbacks and Dangers of fad diets.
Most fad diets lack essential nutrients so you can expect to feel tired and lethargic, your skin and hair will also so suffer (not a great look for your office party).
Severe dieting lowers the metabolic rate. So you will find it increasingly difficult to lose weight despite eating very little – and when the diet ends the weight will go straight back on plus a little more
The limited and restricted choice of foods makes it boring. Your Will-Power and enthusiasm will soon give way to the constant feelings of hunger
If the calories are restricted particular in the form of carbohydrates your body behaves as if it is being starved and stores the fat, allowing muscle tissue to be eaten up. If this is taken to extremes losing too much healthy tissue is potentially dangerous and damage can be caused to you vital organs such as the heart and kidneys.
Fad diets play on the desire of every slimmer to lose weight quickly and easily. This is just not true and people need to understand that the key to healthy, maintained weight loss is often slow, but steady, and focuses on healthy eating and exercise habits so why do we still get carried away with these gimmicky diets that claim to hold the key to a new you. Short term they might get you into that LBD for the office party but the success is short lived and the weight tends to pile back on making it more difficult in the long term to lose weight. Sadly fad diets can make weight problems worse.
Doing right by your body will pay off in the long run. You will think more clearly, have better muscle tone and get more done so you can have more time to enjoy leisure activities. Eating healthy food WILL make you feel better.
You know that healthy habits make sense, so go on…. go out treat yourself to a new dress and learn to eat healthy.
